Early Life and Training

Rishabh Rajendra Pant was born on 4 October 1997 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. His parents are Rajendra Pant and Saroj Pant. Pant also has an elder sister.

His cricket journey began at a young age. When he was around 12, he travelled to Delhi to train under coach Tarak Sinha at the Sonnet Cricket Academy. Pant and his mother stayed at a gurdwara in Moti Bagh during those trips because they did not have a place to live in the city.

Pant worked on his batting technique under his coach. The aim was simple: build a strong attacking style. That approach shaped his game.

During an Under-19 match for Delhi against Assam, Pant scored 150 runs in the second innings. He later said this knock gave him confidence to pursue cricket at a higher level.

Pant made his first-class debut for Delhi in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy season.

He gained attention in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy. During a match against Maharashtra, Pant scored 308 runs in one innings. This made him one of the youngest Indian players to score a triple century in first-class cricket.

Soon after, he created another record. Pant scored the fastest century in Ranji Trophy history. He reached 100 runs in just 48 balls during a match against Jharkhand.

His breakthrough season came in IPL 2018. Pant scored 684 runs in that tournament. One of his best innings came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 128 not out. At the time, it was the highest IPL score by an Indian batter.

Pant later became captain of Delhi Capitals in 2021 after Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury.

In the 2025 IPL auction, Pant made headlines again. The Lucknow Super Giants bought him for ₹27 crore. The deal made him the most expensive player in IPL history at that moment.

Soon after the auction, Lucknow Super Giants named Pant as captain.

International Debut for India

Pant made his international debut in February 2017 in a T20 match against the England national cricket team.

At that time he was one of the youngest players to debut for India in the format.

Later in the final Test at the Gabba, Pant scored an unbeaten 89 runs to help India chase down a tough target against the Australia national cricket team.

That victory ended Australia’s long unbeaten record at the Gabba ground.

Pant’s fearless approach in that series made him one of the most talked-about players in international cricket.

ODI and T20 Performances

Pant also delivered important innings in limited-overs cricket.

In 2022 he scored his first ODI century during India’s tour of England. Pant made an unbeaten 125 runs and helped India win the match.

His vehicle crashed into a road divider and caught fire. Pant suffered injuries to his head, back, and knee.

He received treatment in hospital and later went through a long rehabilitation process.

The accident kept him out of cricket for more than a year.

Comeback and Recent Achievements

Pant returned to professional cricket during the 2024 IPL season. His comeback became one of the most discussed stories in Indian sport.

He later returned to the Indian national team and was part of the squad that won the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

In 2025, Pant achieved another major milestone during India’s tour of England. He scored centuries in both innings of a Test match. This made him the first Indian wicketkeeper to achieve that feat.
