PrepInsta Technologies Builds an Affordable Upskilling Platform for India’s Engineering Students

PrepInsta Technologies, founded by Aashay Mishra, Manish Agarwal, and Atulya Kaushik, is addressing a long-standing gap in India’s education system. PrepInsta offers low-cost upskilling and placement preparation for engineering students, with a clear focus on those from Tier II and Tier III cities. A simple idea shaped by student realities

The founders of PrepInsta shared a common observation. Many engineering students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they lack guidance and affordable resources. Courses that promise placement support often cost between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh. For students from smaller cities, these prices create a barrier.

PrepInsta set out to change that. The company charges ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 for an annual subscription. In return, students get access to a wide range of technical and non-technical courses, along with placement-focused content.

Aashay Mishra, co-founder, says the aim was to remove friction. Most of the learning material exists online, but it is scattered and expensive. PrepInsta brings it together at a price students can manage.

An OTT-style learning model

PrepInsta works like an OTT platform. Instead of paying per course, users subscribe for a fixed period and explore multiple subjects. The catalogue includes cloud computing, AWS, artificial intelligence, and core programming skills. It also covers aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and personality development, areas critical for campus placements.

This structure allows students to switch focus as needed. A learner preparing for technical interviews can move between coding and aptitude without extra cost.

Atulya Kaushik, co-founder, says this flexibility suits college schedules. Students can learn at their own pace and watch lessons when time permits.

Strong focus on Tier II and Tier III cities

PrepInsta operates from Noida but serves students across the country. A large share of its users come from Tier II and Tier III cities, where placement cells and training support often remain limited.

The founders say these students face the same hiring standards as those from top colleges but do not have the same exposure. PrepInsta’s content aims to close that gap by aligning training with real hiring patterns.

The platform also shares updates on which companies are hiring and what skills they expect, helping students plan preparation with clarity.

College partnerships and scale

PrepInsta runs both B2C and B2B models. On the B2C side, students subscribe directly. On the B2B side, the company partners with colleges to support placement preparation.

PrepInsta has partnered with 49 colleges so far and expects to add 30 to 35 more in the current quarter. These include government and private institutions, many based outside metro cities.

Manish Agarwal, co-founder, says the company plans to work with around 300 colleges over time. In the B2B segment, PrepInsta sees a balanced mix of students from large cities and smaller towns.

Internship opportunity with TCS

PrepInsta also offers students the option to complete an internship programme with Tata Consultancy Services. This adds practical exposure, which many students lack when entering the job market.

Internships play a key role in strengthening resumes. PrepInsta positions this opportunity as part of its overall placement readiness approach.

Financial performance and profitability

PrepInsta is a bootstrapped company and reports profitability. The platform has around 2.25 lakh paid active subscribers in its B2C model.

According to the founders, PrepInsta operates at an EBITDA margin of about 40 percent. The company expects revenue between ₹20 crore and ₹25 crore this year. Over the last three years, it reports growth of around four times.

PrepInsta is currently in discussions with venture capital and angel investors but has not announced external funding.

Mentorship alongside content

Beyond recorded courses, PrepInsta provides mentorship support. Students can seek guidance on preparation strategy, skill selection, and placement planning.

The founders say mentorship helps reduce confusion caused by unstructured online content. It also supports students who are first-generation engineers and lack industry guidance at home.

Standing out in a crowded edtech space

India’s edtech sector has seen rapid growth followed by correction. Many platforms rely on premium pricing and volume-driven sales. PrepInsta’s low-cost model sets it apart.

Industry observers note the company’s strong recall among students. Arush Dhawan, founder of Covvalent and a former education sector professional, says PrepInsta has built a clear presence in the student community.

He points to the platform’s engagement around placement updates and preparation advice. According to him, PrepInsta’s strength lies in keeping students informed and aligned with hiring trends.

Recent relevance and market context

Hiring trends in IT and consulting have shifted in recent years. Employers now expect graduates to arrive with job-ready skills. Degrees alone no longer guarantee placement.

Platforms like PrepInsta respond to this change by focusing on employability. Colleges, especially outside major cities, are also looking for partners that can improve placement outcomes without raising costs.

What lies ahead

The founders say their focus remains on expanding access. More college partnerships, new course content, and stronger placement tracking are on the roadmap.

They also plan to deepen community features that allow students to share preparation insights and job information.

At ages 28, 29, and 27, Aashay Mishra, Manish Agarwal, and Atulya Kaushik are building PrepInsta based on their own experience of placement pressure.
