Karan Kanchan Turns Music Into an Immersive Live Experience

When Karan Kanchan walked onto the stage at Lollapalooza India in 2024, it was not just another set. It was the debut of The Karan Kanchan Experience, a live show built around sound, visuals, lighting and movement. For Kanchan, the moment closed a circle that began nine years earlier at the same venue.

In 2015, at 18, Kanchan attended the Mad Decent Block Party at Mumbai’s Mahalakshmi Race Course. It was his first time watching global electronic acts like Major Lazer perform live. He left that night with a clear goal. He wanted to stand on that stage one day, not as a spectator, but as a performer.

In 2024, that goal became real.

From Curiosity to Craft

Kanchan’s journey into music began much earlier. In 2012, while still in school, he clicked on an electronic dance music video online. The sounds felt new and unfamiliar. Instead of just listening, he wanted to know how the music was made.

He began teaching himself music production. By class nine, he had already told his parents he wanted to pursue music as a career. It was not an easy choice. There was no clear path, and no safety net. Over time, his focus and discipline convinced his family to support him.

By 2015, when he attended the Mad Decent show, he already knew one thing. Each artist on stage had a clear identity. That night pushed him to search for his own sound.

Finding a Signature Sound

Kanchan did not lock himself into one genre. He explored widely. His work spans Indian hip hop, pop, electronic music and experimental sounds. He has studied styles as varied as Japanese classical music and Japanese trap.

This range helped him become a producer who adapts to artists rather than forcing them into a formula.

“There are many producers who might be better than me at specific things,” Kanchan says. “Understanding the artist is the main game.”

That approach has made him a sought-after collaborator.

Work Across Genres and Platforms

Over the years, Kanchan has produced music across films and independent projects. His credits include Ishq Nachaawe from Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), created with Rashmeet Kaur and Yashraj, and Baazigar with Divine.

His work often blends electronic textures with Indian rhythms and modern pop structures. Industry peers say his strength lies in building space for artists to feel comfortable and honest during the creative process.

Ankur Tewari, singer-songwriter and music supervisor, calls him “the hottest beat maker in the current scene,” adding that Kanchan pairs musical skill with a strong sense of collaboration.

Building Live Shows as a Business

Kanchan’s ambitions extend beyond the studio.

He is also the founder of Concertancy, a consultancy that helps artists design better live performances. The company works on show structure, sound design, visual planning and stage flow.

Concertancy has worked with major Indian artists, including Diljit Dosanjh, King and Jasleen Royal.

The idea came from Kanchan’s belief that live music in India needs to move beyond basic performance setups. He sees live shows as complete experiences, where sound, visuals and emotion work together.

The Karan Kanchan Experience

That belief took full form at Lollapalooza India 2024.

The Karan Kanchan Experience was not built like a standard DJ or producer set. It used layered visuals, tight lighting cues and dynamic sound changes. The goal was to pull the audience into the music, not just play tracks.

The show marked a shift in how Indian producers present themselves on large festival stages. It also signaled Kanchan’s intent to build scalable live formats that can travel across cities and festivals.

Industry Recognition

Kanchan’s work has drawn praise from across the music ecosystem. Padmanabhan NS, head of artist and label partnerships at Spotify India, says Kanchan has played a key role behind many major releases in the hip hop and indie space.

Peers point to his discipline and consistency as much as his talent. Despite his growing profile, Kanchan continues to spend time learning new tools and refining his process.

What Comes Next

At 27, Kanchan sees his career as a work in progress. He wants to keep building music, expand Concertancy’s work, and develop live formats that push Indian performances to global standards.

He says curiosity remains his biggest driver.

Looking back, he credits one small moment for changing everything. Clicking on a random music video over a decade ago set off a chain of decisions that shaped his life.

Even now, he says, that sense of curiosity has not faded.
